Drawing

Drawing is a fundamental building block to understanding space and form on a flat surface while sparking the imagination in endless ways. We offer a variety of drawing classes starting from the very beginning, utilizing the principles of drawing and how to apply them all the way to figure drawing and character illustration. Drawing and sculpture methods are also tied together to learn from and excel in both.

Painting

The magic of painting is its ability to create and transform itself into endless approaches and possibilities.  We offer courses that tie together techniques learned in drawing and sculpture beginning with techniques in pastel to acrylic, oil painting and beyond. Our four and six week courses will consist of the use of the model and as well as approaches and techniques in pastel and painting.

Sculpture

At Blue Merle sculpture is our passion and we provide exploration in a variety of approaches and media. We start by focusing on more traditional jumping off points, utilizing the figure and elements of abstraction in clay, to stone carving, reliefs, mold making and even prosthetic mask making. Students are encouraged to bring their own unique understanding of the world, their aesthetic preferences and explore materials and processes in which to make things with. We offer ten specialized workshops in sculptural practices outside of clay figure modeling.
